PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FROM THE MAY/JUNE NEWSLETTER
It seems that our school year just flew by! As we reflect on this past year, many fond memories come to mind. We are blessed with new friendships, growing relationships, increased student achievement, outstanding, highly qualified teachers and staff, talented students, a very supportive PTA and wonderful families. Fort Garrison is the successful school that is because of all of these factors. Thank you for what you do to support your children, our staff and our school. I look forward to working with all of our returning families again next year and I encourage you to join and become active in the PTA. To those families whose children are moving on to the middle school, I say a fond farewell. Please feel confident that your child has been well prepared to handle the rigors of the middle school program. To those families who will be moving out of our area or whose children are going on to other programs, you will be missed.
Thank you for the overwhelming outpouring of congratulations, cards, emails, and notes following my award as the first BCPS Principal of the Year. I feel honored to receive this special recognition. Please know that I also feel very blessed to be able to come to Fort Garrison each day and work with your children and my amazing staff.
I ask that you continue your support for the last couple of weeks of this school year. This can be a time in the school year when students are not as focused as they need to be. Your support at home is crucial to helping us maintain our high standards for both student learning and student behavior. Please continue to review your child’s homework on a daily basis and help them set goals for their learning and behavior.
Report cards for the fourth quarter will be handed out to all students at the end of the day on June 14th. No report cards will be handed out prior to the 14th. If your child is unable to be here on the 14th, you will need to stop by the school during the summer to pick their report card up.
May is the month set aside to honor our teachers. Fort Garrison is fortunate to have an outstanding and dedicated staff. On Monday, May 13th two of our teachers were honored at the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce Awards for Excellence in Education dinner at Martin’s West. Our very own Jodi Cohen and Kelly Jones were honored as outstanding educators. Both teachers are certainly worthy of the recognition!
As the end of the school year draws to a close, I wanted to make you are aware of the staffing changes of which we are aware at this time. We will be saying good-bye this year to several teachers who have served our children well. We have 5 teachers retiring from Baltimore County after long and successful careers. Please help me wish the best to Ellen Naftaniel, Barbara Yolken, Michael Berwanger, Connie Clarke, and Marty Brazeau as they embark on their retirements. We are also going to miss Phyllis Rosen and Cheryl Miller. Because of staffing cuts, both of these wonderful teachers are being placed in other positions in BCPS. We will miss all of these amazing teachers. We wish them well in their new locations and next chapters in their lives and hope they know that they will always be a part of the Fort Garrison family.
